@arstechnica Stephen Spielberg over-dramatically announces that he's made yet another silly movie about ETs. "I demand that my effort be taken seriously," said the very silly little man, who to be fair has some worthwhile stuff deserving of acclaim, too, but not this rot.

@arstechnica I do appreciate that modern technology now lets us make crop circles with CGI, which is a major advance over using rope, boards, mathematics, and imagination. .. Wait, I'm being told that these crop circles are only virtual images on a screen, and don't really exist. So apparently it's still boards, rope, and maths, sorry folks. And for funsies, a little imagination for everyone else, to make the effort worth it.

@arstechnica Seriously, the best thing Spielberg could do for his career and reputation at this point would be to retire.

I'd actually say kick out one more really good, smart film, but I don't think he's got it in him. 'Munich' was viscerally engaging, but kinda junky otherwise. Even some of the real people involved in the real story it's about thought it was dumb.

We'll never see another Empire of the Sun from him, I'm sorry.

Maybe another cute kids' movie. He's good at those.
