@arstechnica ...does that mean nvidia is gonna stop giving them free cash?
@arstechnica ha ha, because they can just spin up a silicon architecture that matches the performance of the market leader's devices just because you want to.
The expertise is scarce, and then there's a whole lot of IP locking down everything in the area. A decade of BIG spending required just to tickle the edges of the space.
@arstechnica It appears most of Nvidia’s biggest customers are trying to create their own alternatives to Nvidia’s chips.
If they can pull together a team from scratch that can design great chips year after year, if the chips significantly outperform Nvidia’s chips shipping at that future time, and if they can find someone to manufacture them at scale and a good price, …
There are a lot of “if”s there.
It is worth noting Nvidia’s customers don’t want to be Nvidia’s customers.
