Google just had its first negative cash flow quarter ever due to massive AI spending
Google continues to report big quarterly revenue, but its AI spending has skyrocketed. https://arstechnica.com/google/2026/07/google-just-had-its-first-negative-cash-flow-quarter-ever-due-to-massive-ai-spending/?utm_brand=arstechnica&utm_social-type=owned&utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social

Interesting story, has this ever happened before?
@arstechnica good.
@arstechnica Perhaps that $0.8T fine levied by the EU will make more of a dent than I thought.
Then again, a strapped-for-cash google is is even less likely to cough up.
@arstechnica I hope it continues and dies. Next FB and twit ... hope is all I got left.
@arstechnica it's impossible to predict the future of something this volatile, but I'm going to try anyway because why not. I think the stock market crash in Korea signals the beginning of the end - the bubble is popping in slow motion. I wouldn't be surprised if none of the American big tech companies reach their spending goals for next year, because they'll either have gone bankrupt and been parceled out to their competition, or they'll have wisened up and decided to stop wasting money.
