I don't think it was either "people" or "AI" that made the layoff "decisions," it was math. Employees were ranked according to how their arbitrary productivity metrics were washed through an arbitrary "performance" algorithm. The (naturally arbitrary) *results* of their little equation were literally what made the decision for them, no further consideration necessary.
Yet another indication that Meta has a serious problem with values, or rather, revealing what they really are.
